Unteachable Blog Stop and Giveaway

UnTeachable

by Leah Reader

BLURB:
I met him at a carnival, of all corny places. The summer I turned eighteen, in that chaos of neon lights and cheap thrills, I met a man so sweet, so beautiful, he seemed to come from another world. We had one night: intense, scary, real. Then I ran, like I always do. Because I didn’t want to be abandoned again.
But I couldn’t run far enough.
I knew him as Evan that night. When I walked into his classroom, he became Mr. Wilke.
My teacher.
I don’t know if what we’re doing is wrong. The law says one thing; my heart says screw the law. I can’t let him lose his job. And I can’t lose him.
In the movies, this would have a happy ending. I grow up. I love, I lose, I learn. And I move on. But this is life, and there’s no script. You make it up as you go along.
And you don’t pray for a happy ending. You pray for it to never end.

Dee’s Review
I'm not sure how I feel about this book right now. There was so much of the book that was rhythmic with the way it was written. Almost poetic. Or like a manuscript to a play.  Can't say I have read a book like that before. It was different. But then the book would jump to a modern day format. I'm not saying it was bad, just different. Fast Forward. So remember the days of summer when you were in high school, going to the local carnival or fair ? The cheap ride, cheaper beer, and fun times? That is where Maise met her man. That is where Maise met the man she fell in love with. Little did we know he was her teacher! WHAAAAAT!!

Yup you read that right, her teacher. They have hot steamy car sex. Everything is good, right? Who cares?!?! NO biggie!! Well... this is what she thinks.. Until she goes to school and finds out he's her teacher for the class she HAS to take for college. AWKWARD!

Okay. So I get Maise. She has a crappy life. And an even crappier drugged out dealing mother. So she does what she can to escape, and most times that is at the hands of a man. I get it. Do I like it, not really, but I get it. Then she meets Wesley, awkward gangly gonna be my best friend and I just don't know it Wesley. He reminded my of my typical friends in High School. Yeah, I was a bit of a dork... surprising, right? Now both Wesley and Maise are into films and making them. Hence, the flow of the book. Little does Maise know, Wesley is pretty much stalking her, for her benefit of course. And believe me, this comes up and is a little important later down the road. Anyway, Maise has to deal with her mom basically pimping her out, being blackmailed by a snotty bitch at school for drugs, falling in love and not being able to spend time with the man you love. It's a lot to deal with. She has a lot on her shoulders.

Let's also not mention the secrets Evan is keeping. It's a lot. It's a lot for an adult, let a lone an 18 year old. She handles it well. Very well. But it's still a lot. I'm surprised she didn't have more breakdowns or meltdowns. I would've. I liked the book. Once I got used to the flow, it was pretty good. I give this book 3/5 hearts.
