Alex by Sawyer Bennett, review by Dee

My rating: 4.5 of 5 hearts

Synopsis:

USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett scores big-time with the first novel in a sexy new series hot enough to melt the ice.

Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.

As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

Includes a special message from the editor, as well as an excerpt from another Loveswept title.

I am so happy I stumbled across this book on netgalley. I think I might be in love. I don't know what it was about Alex that was perfect for the mood I was in. Maybe it's the broody attitude, broken spirit. Maybe it's the space he keeps from people. I don't know, whatever it was, was perfect. It could also be that Sawyer is an amazing writer. She pulls you into the story and writes so well you feel like you're there in the story and she didn't hesitate to deliver that same feeling with this book.

Alex is your bad boy, who's broken and refuses to commit, the past is digging it's claws in. Sutton is the good girl, broke free from her past and full of courage and bravery out to change the world. I didn't think these two would get along. I didn't think he would open up. I didn't think he would heal but she does that for him. Helps him. He didn't think he could do the whole relationship thing and he becomes such a great boyfriend. And let's be honest, the sex is HAWT. The way he stood up to Cassie. Swoon. The way he stood up to his dad. Swoon. The way he wowed her brother. Swoon. The way he apologized. Major swoon. I think this was a great storyline and was executed perfectly. I give this 4.5 hearts.

  1. I've been eyeing this one on Goodreads for a little while now. I'm always into hockey romance type of books and I'm glad if you're not disappointed. If you swooned so much, then I'm pretty sure I'll have a wonderful time with this book! :)
