I didn’t plan on him.
Or for him.
Or anything that had to do with Cal Donovan from Boston.
Meeting him had been a complete and utter surprise, taking me one hundred percent off guard. I met new people every single day in my line of work and none of them affected me. Wasn’t that the way of things though? You could meet a thousand people and they’d all mean nothing to you. But then you’d meet that one and they suddenly meant everything.

JULES POV
Cal’s eyes opened and met mine instantly, capturing me. It was as if no one else existed around us. I heard nothing else, saw no one else. My new friend Robin wasn’t there at the table in this hotel lobby, and neither were his coworkers. Cal and I were the only two people in the entire hotel, as far as I was concerned.
Glancing at my mouth, he licked his lips. I willed my body not to react, but it heated anyway. He reached out again and squeezed the top of my leg before resting his hand there as if that was where
it belonged. On my body. Touching me. And I couldn’t remember what I had been doing before that moment. One touch from him caused my thoughts to scatter.
“Take a drink.”
That’s right. I was supposed to be drinking this damn bourbon. I stopped focusing on his hand caressing the inside of my thigh and stared at the glass. I tilted it back, sipping it like he had instructed, and I almost couldn’t believe it when the liquid didn’t burn me up from the inside out like it always had before. Everything about it tasted completely different. It was tolerable, good even, to drink it straight when you followed Cal’s advice.
“And?”
“I guess there is a right way to drink bourbon,” I said with a nod, pushing the glass back toward him.
“Was it good?”
“It actually was. I’m impressed.”
“I’m pretty impressive,” he said, and smiled at me with a mock smugness.
I stared at his smile, wanting to photograph that mouth for all the world to see. No, not the world. Just me. I wanted photographic proof of those lips. What if I never saw them again after tonight? I was pretty sure I’d die if I didn’t get to kiss them. Dramatic, yes, but this man woke up the sleeping beast that had lain dormant inside my chest for so long. It was all his fault that my heart decided to come back to life the moment it found him.
People say not to judge a book by its cover but HELLO have you seen this cover? It's stunning. That was the first thing that caught my attention the next was the fact that it was a book by J. Sterling. Finally that blurb and title. I mean hello what the hell did it all mean?
Jules, is a woman who knows who she is and what she wants in life. She is determined and set to go after what she wants. I love female protagonists that hold nothing back. Jules is all of that. She doesn't play games, is honest about her feelings and doesn't apologize for them. She is a straight shooter.
Cal, like Jules is tenacious in his pursuit to get his career where it needs to be. He is smart, sexy and fun. Like Jules he wants certain things from life and love is not one of them. Both of them are happy being workaholics, not wanting anyone or anything get in the way of that. But what happens when fate steps in and brings you the perfect person? Do you walk away or try to make it work?
Cal lives in Boston while Jules is on the opposite coast in Malibu, California. Neither of them planned for one another yet one faithful night they are brought together. Right off the attraction and banter are off the charts. Slowly I got a glimpse into their world and how they each felt for one another. There were parts that had me smiling and laughing (especially with Tami). There was a few parts that dragged for me but the author would reel me back in quickly so I didn't lose too much interest in the story. The plot moved along and while it was a more predictable read I liked the fact that this story was realistic. Both Cal and Jules didn't up and leave their jobs, uprooting their lives for someone they just met. Instead they built their relationship, getting to know one another. I can appreciate that. All in all this is a solid read with characters that are cute and realistic. I loved the secondary characters, they brought moments of laughter and helped move the protagonists forward.
I got fired from my last job. It's true. I know you're sitting there thinking, "Jenn, how could anyone in their right mind fire someone like you?" And I'd love to give you a good reason, but the truth is that sometimes being all sorts of awesome isn't fun for other people. They don't always tend to like it. lol So I picked my pride off the floor, bought a laptop and started writing my first book. And you know what I realized? Writing stories that meant something to me was a million times better than working my ass off for someone who didn't really care about anything other than the bottom line. My soul has never felt more satisfied. My heart has never been more full. I've never worked so hard in my life, but I love every second of it. I truly do. It is SO worth it. All of it. Every moment. The journey it took to get to this point- I wouldn't change a thing.
