One reckless fighter.
One night of passion she can't forget.
The battle for sex and love is fierce and unrelenting.
And love is about to knock him on his ass.
Reckless Love can be read as a standalone novel, but is a follow up to the New York Times and USA Today bestseller Hard to Love.
“So, it’s true then?”
My breathing stopped. “What’s true?” I asked cautiously.
“That you don’t have sex before a big fight.” Her look was so innocent and hopeful, yet it still took me a second to figure out why she was asking this.
“Yes,” I finally answered. Her cute little frame seemed to relax a little, making me feel—once again—like a total dick. She didn’t know I paid Sara; she was talking about something completely different, about the night we almost hooked up. The night I told her I couldn’t because I had a fight the next day.
She chewed at the inside of her cheek a moment, maybe considering what I’d just said. Shit, that meant she thought I’d just made that up to get rid of her. Not fucking likely. Putting the brakes on that night had been the hardest thing I’d ever done.
“So,” she said as she looked up at me innocently through her eyelashes. “What does that do? For a fighter, I mean.”
I chuckled. “You mean besides frustrate the hell out of us?”
She smiled—thank fucking goodness—then nodded for me to continue.
“You know that stereotype that most guys are boneheaded cave dwellers driven by instinct?”
“Is it considered a stereotype if it’s true?” she said, then giggled.
God, she had a great laugh.
I nodded. “That’s what I was getting at. On some very basic level, we fight in order to survive and procreate.”
She scrunched up her nose, making her look super cute. “But wouldn’t you fight better then? If you have sex, then you have someone to fight for, right?”
Her hand went up to mine, which was still resting on her shoulder. She absentmindedly played with my fingers until she noticed I was watching her, and realized what she’d been doing. She let her hand drop.
I shook my head. “We fight to procreate. Once we’ve had sex, we’ve done the job and have no reason to fight.”
“Hmm.” She nodded. “So I guess now that you aren’t fighting for a while, you’re free to take care of business.” Her gaze drifted down my body.
I love it when an author that I adore makes books that have me panting for more!
Reckless Love is book 2 in this series. Although it can be read as a standalone. I would suggest you read Hard to Love just to get a bit of background, you totes don't have to but that it just what I suggest.
We meet Ian and McKenzie. Straight off from page 1 I am laughing because it's just like a man to say the things he says. Ian is an MMA fighter so he has certain rules that he abides by. McKenzie is a nurse who was laid off and is now employed at the gym Ian works out in. Ian and Mckenzie are both lovable characters that frustrated the crap out of me at times. You know what happens when two people are sexually compatible but they are both too stubborn to see past themselves. Yeah thats these two.
McKenzie is a strong, independent and prideful woman. Qualities which are great but sometimes women need to let down their guard just a bit to let someone in. I get why she is this way, and I love how Kendall wrote the story because as things began to unravel I was loving how it was all playing out for the characters.
Ian! What can I say about Ian! If you love you some hot, alpha male manly man then Ian is mine....er...I mean right up your ally. I love how he is protective yet sweet and sincere. He made me all melty.
Kendall Ryan is one author who just gets it. She knows how to write in a male POV so much that you forget that she is a female author and seriously think a male is writing Ian's POV. Not many authors can pull that off. This book had me going through the motions. Sometimes I wanted to slap sense into the characters because I was like can you two just TALK to one another geez. Other times I was swooning and couldn't wait to read what was coming next. Overall this book is not to be missed. MMA fighters are hot. Nurses are hotter. Put together and fireworks erupt.
Kendall Ryan is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance novels, including Hard to Love, Unravel Me, Resisting Her and When I Break.
She's a sassy, yet polite Midwestern girl with a deep love of books, and a slight addiction to lipgloss. She lives in Minneapolis with her adorable husband and two baby sons, and enjoys hiking, being active, and reading.
