From the New York Times bestselling author of Suddenly Royal comes the first in a sparkling new series about America’s favorite royal—the First Daughter.

Everyone makes mistakes, especially in college. But when you’re the daughter of the President of the United States, any little slip up is a huge embarrassment. Maddie McGuire’s latest error in judgment lands her in police custody, giving the press a field day. Agreeing to do community service as penance and to restore her tattered reputation, Maddie never dreams incredibly good looking but extremely annoying vice president’s son, Jake Simmon, will be along for the ride.

Recently returning from Afghanistan with a life-altering injury, Jake is wrestling with his own demons. He doesn’t have the time or patience to deal with the likes of Maddie. They’re like oil and water and every time they’re together, it’s combustible. But there’s a thin line between love and hate, and it’s not long before their fiery arguments give way to infinitely sexier encounters.

When Jake receives devastating news about the last remaining member of his unit, the darkness he’s resisted for so long begins to overwhelm him. Scared to let anyone close, he pushes Maddie away. But she isn’t about to give up on Jake that easily. Maddie’s fallen for him, and she’ll do anything to keep him from the edge as they both discover that love is a battlefield and there are some fights you just can’t lose.

“I’ll be done in a minute.” He looked down at me and smiled softly. “I’m glad you’re here.”
“Yeah? Why’s that?”
“You’re just so easy to be around.” He shrugged as if that summed up the whole world but I had no idea what it meant.
“And… . . . that’s a good thing?.” I frowned up at him. He gave me butterflies and I stumbled over everything I said but he thought I was easy to be around.
He stepped closer and I found myself nose to chest. His fingers tilted my chin up and his lips fluttered over mine. I let my palm rest on his skin where I could feel his heart beating rapidly. He didn’t touch me except for the fingers on my chin and his lips on mine.
When he stepped back, his brown eyes were dark. “It’s a good thing.”
Before I could think to ask anything else, he was gone, taking the stairs two at a time. My fingers drifted up to my lips and I stared at where he had just been, the remote in my other hand forgotten.
I’d never been kissed like that before; with so much tenderness and awe.

It's not often that I find a political book that has characters that make me swoon and want to emulate but Nichole Chase does just that with her new novel Bedmates. This is not my first book I have read by Nichole but I can tell you that it won't be my last. This novel centers around Madeline McGuire the President's college aged daughter and the Vice-President's son Jake Simmon who has just returned from Afghanistan after losing his leg in a crash. Jake and Maddie have grown up in the spotlight, with both their families grooming them to be in front of the cameras. Maddie tries staying out of the spotlight as much as possible, until one fateful night she is arrested and thus begins a chain of events that can only be described as... well destiny.

Maddie had a crush on Jake when she was younger but he didn't pay her much attention. She is required to do community service so she is now to help Jake with building homes for Veterans. No big deal right? Well lets just say Jake finally opens his eyes and really sees Maddie for the first time. I loved Maddie so much in this book. She is the epitome of what a first daughter should be, strong, independent and fearless. I loved that while she knew the role she needed to take as the President's daughter she was still a free spirit. She loved animals so much that she got arrested for trying to free ones that were in a lab being tested for beauty products. Her lines had me laughing and falling in love with her character. I could just see the innocence and drive in her coming off the kindle. LOVE HER!

Jake, was at first a bit pretentious but I soon found him to be funny and quick with comebacks to Maddie's taunts. He had me eating out of the palm of his hand, seriously! He was self assured and wanted nothing more then to help Vets with housing. He loves his family, and the way he is with his sisters, gah I fell hard for Jake. Oh and be ready to also fall in love with Puz. He's the cutest little creature I've read about in a book.

BUT, there is a darker undertone to this book. Being in a political family does not mean that you always do things you want to do. Sometimes your parents make you do things to make them look better to the people and for poll ratings. While it's despicable I could totes see it happening. There were parts of this book that were hard to read, not because of anything super bad but I was empathetic to this character that all I wanted was for them to get better. Oh and Jakes Mom...OMG I wanted to smack the crap out of that lady. I couldn't believe some of the shit she does, okay maybe I can but OMFG REALLY???!!!

Overall the Nichole did an amazing job with this book. I can't wait to read more. Now I want to read the books that have a political theme to them. All because of this book right here. Trust me it was so worth the read.
