When her mother’s incessant matchmaking hits an all-time high, Georgie Archibald does what any sensible woman would do: she flees the country.
Seeking refuge in the picturesque seaside village of Vernazza, Italy, Georgie’s only plan is to lie low, gorge herself on gelato, and let the wine and waves wash her troubles away...that is until she wakes up in a bed that belongs to the most romantic-looking man she’s ever seen.
Gianluca.
After going out of his way to rescue her, the former London financier turned mysterious recluse makes it clear that despite acting as her white knight, he has no plans to co-star in her fairytale.
But Georgie isn’t asking for his heart—she’s merely intrigued.
After all, Gianluca isn’t just gorgeous—tall and tan from days spent in the sun—his touch sets her world on fire. With him, Georgie experiences the most intoxicating passion she’s ever known, and it only takes a few steamy nights for her to realize that sometimes running away from trouble is the best way to find it.
Oh how I love books about places I want to visit. As many know I go into books blind. Maybe I will read the synopsis, other times it's because I have read the author's work and know they can give me good story. I have only read one other book by this author but it left such an impression on me that I knew I needed to read this one.
Georgie is an Englishwoman who is tired of her mom setting her up on blind dates. She decides to take matters into her own hands and goes to Italy. Okay I don't know much people who would up and leave like this but that is what I grew to love about Georgie. She is funny and just goes for it, leaving caution in the wind. She rambles on and on when she is nervous but she has a big heart.
Gianluca, man this guy, so when I first met him he was brooding and mysterious but the more I read the more I understood of him and WOW!!! This guy has went through so much and I can understand why he is so aloof. (Obviously I wont give that away, even though I don't think it's a spoiler.) When these two are together you can feel the electricity coming from the pages.
This book has everything I love. Great writing, I felt like I was in the story and could feel their emotions. Angst, oh lord to have the dual points of view is great because I got to see what Georgie was thinking and feeling as well as Gianluca but neither of the characters know and I was like OH MY GOD! HOLY SHIZZZ!! You all know how much I love me my angst. What I really loved about this book was that I laughed so many times just within the first few pages. Georgie is a character who is fun loving and free spirited and did things that made me laugh. Her presence made this book so enjoyable. I love female characters that grow and have a sense of humor and Georgie does both.
Overall I have to say that this is a book that melted my heart. From Gianluca and his swoony ways to Georgie and the secondary characters who by the end felt like family. R.S. Grey did a nice job in bringing certain elements to this book without being too pushy and shoving things in my face. I laughed, I cried, I got sad and upset but in the end I loved every minute.
I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things... everyday.
I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors are Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I'm a comedy geek and love all things "funny". Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.
