({COVER REVEAL}) Broken Girl by Gretchen De La O

BROKEN GIRL
by Gretchen de la O
A standalone Contemporary Romance
RELEASE DATE:
Friday, April 29th, 2016
COVER DESIGNED BY:
Perfect Pear Creative Covers (Sommer Stein)

BROKEN GIRL SYNOPSIS:
My name is ROSE NEWTON, and I sell my body on the streets of San Francisco. I’m what you call society's dirty little secret. On the outside, I'm in control, the woman who makes her own rules and gives nothing away for free. Inside, I’m broken and numb. Torn and shattered by my past, my life is nothing more than the lost fragments of what's left of me.

SHANE WEST represents everything that’s foreign to me. He’s brave, kind, funny, gorgeous and persistent. When fate brings us face to face, an undeniable attraction blazes between us. He becomes the constant I've never had and the only man I'll ever trust.

There is nothing simple about falling in love when you're keeping a secret like mine.

BROKEN GIRL EXCERPT:
Time is bending my trust, breaking me before he brushes the back of his fingers against my lips. His touch startles me at first, but tracing his fingers on the outside curve of my lower lip soothes me.

“What if I can’t trust?” I ask in a hushed whisper.

“You can,” he answers, dragging his fingers along the outline of my jaw and down across my collarbone.

“What if it’s not in me?” I ask, still blindfolded and feet tangle in the sheet.

“You have everything you’ll ever need, right here.” he answers rubbing the tips of his fingers in circles between my breasts. My heart reaches for his touch as it leaps and crashes against my chest.

“You don’t understand, Mister, I need to have a sense of control.”

“Rosebud, control is an illusion, it’s a decision to trust a certain outcome. All you have to do is trust me and you’ll have all the control you need.”

I want his words to soothe me, and his calm, direct voice to caress the strength within me cowering at letting go of my scars. I want to trust him. I crave to taste the freedom he wants to give me. I want him to save me from a future tucked under cracked sidewalks, cold gutters and from ever having to fuck another man for a penance. I try and convince myself that he wants to keep me off the streets.

    Walk the Edge - cover

One moment of recklessness will change their worlds

Smart. Responsible. That's seventeen-year-old Breanna's role in her large family, and heaven forbid she put a toe out of line. Until one night of shockingly un-Breanna-like behavior puts her into a vicious cyberbully's line of fire—and brings fellow senior Thomas "Razor" Turner into her life.

Razor lives for the Reign of Terror motorcycle club, and good girls like Breanna just don't belong. But when he learns she's being blackmailed over a compromising picture of the two of them—a picture that turns one unexpected and beautiful moment into ugliness—he knows it's time to step outside the rules.

And so they make a pact: he'll help her track down her blackmailer, and in return she'll help him seek answers to the mystery that's haunted him—one that not even his club brothers have been willing to discuss. But the more time they spend together, the more their feelings grow. And suddenly they're both walking the edge of discovering who they really are, what they want, and where they're going from here.

“I’m here about your mother.” The asshole knows he has me when my eyes snap to his.
“She’s dead.” Like the other times I say the words, a part of me dies along with her.
This guy has green eyes and they soften like he’s apologetic. “I know. I’m sorry. I’ve received some new evidence that may help us discover what caused her death.”
Anger curls within my muscles and my jaw twitches. This overwhelming sense of insanity is what I fight daily. For years, I’ve heard the whispers from the gossips in town, felt the stares of the kids in class, and I’ve sensed the pity of the men in the Reign of Terror I claim as brothers. It’s all accumulated to a black, hissing doubt in my soul.
                  Suicide.
It’s what everyone in town says happened. It’s in every hushed conversation people have the moment I turn my back. It’s not just from the people I couldn’t give two shits about, but the people who I consider family.
I shove away those thoughts and focus on what my father and the club have told me—what I have chosen to believe. “My mother’s death was an accident.”
He’s shaking his head and I’m fresh out of patience. I’m not doing this. Not with him. Not with anyone. “I’m not interested.”
I push off the railing and I did out the keys to my motorcycle as I bound down the steps. The detective’s behind me. He has a slow steady stride and it irritates me that he follows across the yard and doesn’t stop coming as I swing my leg over my bike.
“What if I told you I don’t think it was an accident,” he says.
Odds are it wasn’t. Odds are every whispered taunt in my direction is true. That my father and the club drove Mom crazy, and I wasn’t enough of a reason for her to choose life.
To drown him out, I start the engine. This guy must be as suicidal as people say Mom was because he eases in front of my bike assuming I won’t run him down.
                  “Thomas,” he says.
I twist the handle to rev the engine in warning. He raises his chin like he’s finally pissed and his eyes narrow on me. “Razor.”
I let the bike idle. If he’s going to respect me by using my road name, I’ll respect him for a few seconds. “Leave me the fuck alone.”
Damn if the man doesn’t possess balls the size of Montana. He steps closer to me and drops a bomb. “I have reason to believe your mom was murdered.”

I have read two books by Katie McGarry and both of those made me pause in wonder and amazement. When given the chance to read this book you know I was all over it. If it was anything like the other 2 than I knew it would be a book that would hold my interest and make me happy. Boy was I right.

This is the second book in the Thunder Road series, I did not read the first one but each book like her Pushing the Limits series can be read as stand-alones as each book follows a character within that setting.

What I enjoyed was this book is about a motorcycle club but the told through the eyes of the young generation. They are in High School. What I liked about this book was how it shows that sometimes in life you are just born into a world, but it doesn’t not mean you don’t have choices.

Razor is this tough, dangerous, and quiet. There is an undertone to him, not of arrogance but of something a bit darker. Yet, he has a side to him that is capable of love. Then there is Breanna, a smart girl who has many responsibilities, including helping to care for her younger brothers and sister all while giving up what she wants for her families sake. Although they seem to forget about her often. Man oh man did I have issues with her family. Seriously people if you have children it’s your responsibility to take of them not your eldest children’s. I get helping out family but this was more than just that. I could go on forever with this issue but I will let it go since this is a fictional world. Bust seriously this girl is a saint to the things she gives up for her family.

When Razor and Breanna meet it’s quite funny. She thinks he is going to hurt her. Razor is annoyed that she feels this way. Razor makes me laugh the way he handles the situation but after this initial meeting they both can’t seem to forget the other. Breanna makes me laugh with her inner monologue. As the story progresses I started to see these characters for who they truly were not what they put out for others to see. The relationship was a slow build which for me is always good. I love the interaction with them and how they slowly begin to trust one another. Each have their own problems but damn as a couple they truly are amazing.

Another aspect I enjoyed was the fact that Breanna is being bullied. A football player wants her to write his English paper and she refuses he tells her if she doesn’t he will post pictures of her online. Not that I enjoy bullying, it’s the fact that this topic is relevant for our time, and how McGarry uses the storyline to bring light to how this can happen to anyone. I absolutely enjoyed this book from beginning to end. As I said yes, I have an issue with her family but being Mexican I know how it is with family and loyalties. I enjoyed the romance and the way the story was told. Highly recommend this to anyone wanting to read about a motorcycle club but not sure if they are ready for it, I think this series will show you the ugly side but also the sweet caring side of it all.

And don’t miss the first book in the Thunder Road Series,
